| Radiological Society of New Jersey Resident and Fellow Section Semi-Annual Report - November 8, 2003 Over the last six months, our section has continued to make a strong foundation, and evolve into one of the most active sections in the country, in its very first year of existence. In May this year our section was represented at the ACR annual meeting in Washington DC by Ajay Sood and Ravi Prasad. Details of this meeting can be found on our website. Our section has made its mark nationally, and it has been gratifying to assist other states form resident and fellow sections within their respective radiological societies based on our experience, and also contribute to making their websites. Dr Nilesh Doshi, radiology residency program director at Cooper was nominated as the new RFS liaison to the RSNJ executive committee, along with Dr, Amorosa who has continued to be strongly involved with the section. The RFS executive committee met in July and finalized a statewide radiology resident survey. This survey is now available on our website for all New Jersey radiology residents and fellows. The program representatives were requested to circulate the survey, and also respond to another survey regarding their program. We have had a good response so far, however we will continue to collect data till the end of this year, so that we can focus future action and efforts of the RSNJ RFS appropriately. Information was also requested from all radiology residency programs in the state to update our database. The RFS website (http://www.rsnj.org/residents) continues to evolve as the main information source of the section. The number of hits per month that this site receives has shown a significant increase over the last six months. Dr. Ajay Sood was nominated to the ACR Commission on Government Relations, and also selected as one of the 2003 ACR 'J T Rutherford' interns for government relations. We hope that this will be a representative trend for the RSNJ RFS in the coming years. On October 7th, 2003 physicians across the state of New Jersey staged rallies on tort reform and then participated in the first door-to-door campaign to support candidates for the New Jersey state assembly who are in favor of tort reform. Many radiology residents representing the Resident and Fellow Section of the Radiological Society of New Jersey attended the physician rally at Jersey Shore Medical center. On behalf of the RSNJ-RFS, we would specially like to thank Drs. Susie Chen, Sal Parinello, Neil Patil, Vaishali Patel, Ravi Prasad, and Adarsh Verma, mainly from the Department of Radiology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, for attending the rally and Drs. Verma, Patil, and Prasad for assisting with the "house calls." This year the section will be supporting the resident career workshop being organized by the Resident Physician section of the New York Radiological Society on November 15, 2003. We plan to organize our own annual event in the near future, depending on the response we receive through the RFS survey. We look forward to an even greater resident participation in the RFS, RSNJ and also the ACR in the next six months. Thank you. Ajay Sood MD |
