Radiological Society of New Jersey
Resident and Fellow Section

Annual Report - April 5, 2003

The last year has seen the creation of a separate resident and fellow section (RFS) within the RSNJ to better serve the interests and concerns of over one hundred radiology residents in various residency programs within the state. With such a large membership base of radiology residents in NJ, it was logical to get together as a proactive group, and form a dynamic and fully functioning resident and fellow section.

Letters were written individually to various radiology residency program directors and chief residents in New Jersey to get their support and also to promote this initiative among all residents. A database of all current radiology residents and fellows in New Jersey was created, which will be updated annually.

Another major area of activity was making an interactive resident website (www.rsnj.org/residents) as part of the RSNJ website which would include among other things, information about the section, issues pertinent to residents, links to educational resources and opportunities, resident surveys, and links to NJ radiology residency programs. This website received a commendation from the ACR.

The inaugural meeting of the RFS was held on January 14, 2003, which was attended by representatives from various residency programs in the state as well as the RFS liaisons to the RSNJ executive committee. Bylaws were adopted unanimously. The goals of the RFS were discussed, and also the need for resident/fellow involvement in political committees. Elections for the first RFS executive committee were held, with Ajay Sood being elected President, Sunil Gujrathi as Vice-President and Ravi Shankar Prasad as the Secretary-Treasurer.

A statewide radiology residency survey is being developed to help us create an effective agenda, and identify issues that need to be highlighted through the RFS.

The creation of our resident section was also in focus in the March, 2003 issue of the ACR bulletin. I certainly believe that we are well on our way towards making this one of the most effective resident and fellow sections in the country. I wish to thank current and past RSNJ presidents doctors Tedeschi and DiMarcangelo, our liaisons doctors Amorosa and Graziano, and also a core group of dedicated residents towards making this initiative possible.

Thank you.

Ajay Sood MD
President RFS
