Unknown Case of the Month #19

Submitted by:
Dr. Lawrence C. Swayne, Attending
Diagnostic Radiology

Morristown Memorial Hospital

A 29-year-old multipara female presented 5 days post partum with fever, shortness of breath and abdominal pain. The patient had history of repeated urinary tract infections and was on appropriate antibiotic coverage for a recently documented infection at the time of admission. An initial fever of 38 C quickly subsided; however, her white blood cell count continued to climb to 25,000 and peritonitis was suspected. Selected images from an abdominal and pelvic CT scan are shown. What is your diagnosis?
