HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996

RSNJ is not directly regulated by HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, which includes Privacy and Security regulations to guarantee patients rights and protections against the misuse or disclosure of personally identifiable health information, referred to as Protected Health Information (PHI). RSNJ has a policy of safeguarding the privacy of PHI in any form and endeavors to ensure that the security and confidentiality of electronically transmitted or maintained (warehoused) patient information is achieved. In particular, RSNJ follows the "Minimum Necessary" rule. This rule limits the disclosure of PHI to those with a need to know and to disclose only the minimum necessary to perform needed function.
